PULLING TEETH

about

Upon arriving in Syracuse after growing up in Brussels, Belgium as an American expat, Lorenzo Gillis Cook was introduced to the fast paced, lo-fi sound of the American house show scene. Though he had been making music for years under the name Spark Alaska and a multitude of high school bands, the franticness and earnest expression being put on display in these upstate basements and attics was infectious.

In late 2014, Cook brought the first Petite League demo of friend and drummer Henry Schoonmaker, and the rest is history. Since then, the two have recorded two albums (Slugger and No Hitter), garnered press from Pitchfork, the Fader, Noisey, etc. , co-founded the notable Syracuse DIY venue Scarier Dome, and now reside in Ridgewood, Queens post-graduation.

This bring us to present day, and the band’s the third record, Rips One Into the Night. Blending the sweet, bubblegum qualities of bedroom pop and the snot nosed fuzz of garage rock, Rips One Into the Night is Petite League fully-formed. Coming in at 10 tracks, Rips One Into the Night will be released on September 1st by The Native Sound and the band’s own Scarier Dome label.

Track Name: SUN DOGS
I go, go, go but always waiting in line
I know, know, know we’re all ahead of our time
and she says…always…
Always doesn’t always mean forever
Always doesn’t always mean together
You always said you’d be here at the end of the end but it’s almost over and I’m thinking of what you said again. Oh you said
wait up, wait up for me don’t wait up for me we’ll drink all the evenings away, always, always all you and me.

Oh now now now i’m alone in the outfield
Oh dear my dear, deer in the headlights with sun in eyes
No easy pop flies tonight, we’re all going out for a good time till she says
Always doesn’t always mean forever
Always doesn’t always mean together
You always said you’d be here at the end of the end but it’s almost over and I’m thinking of what you said again. Oh you said

wait up wait up for me. I said wait up wait up for me. I’ve been drinking all my evenings away. My lungs are just an ashtray for my cigarette decay. I hope I come across you again some day. Oh I hope I come across you again someday. In a mansion, in the street or the ditch where you left me. Oh I hope I come across you again someday
Track Name: PULLING TEETH
Hearts around my eyes as my teeth touch your veneers
Bloody nose of a rich girl, you're a painful souvenir
Hearts around my eyes as my teeth broke your skin
The air conditioner is broken, the evidence she glistens

Heart in my throat, oh it's love like pulling teeth
Scratches down my side, in blood is how she wrote
Hurt in my heart, you're a painful lumineer
I loved you more than one night, but you don't remember me

If you disappear all too quick in the middle of the night
All I've got to remember you are these bite marks in my neck
So whats your name? Where you from? Where you going?
I know it's hard to be in New York in the summer
So whats your name? Where you from? Where you going?
I know it's hard to be in New York in the summer
